DNO - Blessed with a long, windy coastline, calm waters, and beautiful surfable waves, Da Nang is emerging as an ideal destination for those who love water sports, especially surfing.
The best time for surfing in the city is from late September to March, which also coincides with the winter vacation season and peak international tourism in Viet Nam.
Recent years have seen a rapid growth in demand for surfing lessons from both domestic and international tourists.
To meet the increasing demand, many professional surfing services have gradually been provided across the city, with a range of courses suitable for beginners or experienced surfers.
A basic surfing session usually lasts from 90 - 120 minutes, including on-land theoretical instruction and in-water practice with a professional instructor.
The lesson costs between VND 800,000 - VND 1 million per hour, depending on the number of participants and the type of service. After the session, participants can rent surfboards for independent practice.
Surfing courses are often divided into many levels from basic to advanced. In the introductory phase of surfing, learners will practice such basic skills as swimming, wave-catching, balance and standing on the board.
Later, they can develop more advanced techniques including dynamic movement, paddling into waves, aerial maneuvers, and carving turns.
Notably, many surf centers in Da Nang are connected to beach bars or chill-out lounges, where surfers can relax and interact with the local surf community, and enjoy the "chill" atmosphere after a day on the waves.
These venues not only provide services but also contribute to building a distinctive surfing sub culture in the city, attracting sports lovers and nature enthusiasts alike.
Ms. Theodora and her boyfriend both from Romania are on a 4-day vacation in Da Nang. And they spend all time on local beaches. Having surfed in famous beaches in France, Sri Lanka and Brazil, Ms. Theodora still finds Da Nang to be uniquely impressive.
“The waves here are very small and gentle, which is perfect for beginners. There are also specific areas for surfing, giving a feeling of safety and comfort. Instructors are super cute and enthusiastic. We will definitely be back here for more surfing lessons”, Ms. Theodora shared.
