Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi attended the anniversary ceremony.

Heart for Heart - Foundation for Life was founded in 2003 by Munich-based entrepreneurial couple, Prof. Erich Lejeune and Dr Irène Lejeune.

Twenty years ago, Prof. Erich Lejeune, founder of the Heart for Heart Foundation for Life, and his wife, Dr. Irène Lejeune, the foundation’s CEO, came to Vietnam and chose Da Nang Hospital as a partner to implement humanitarian aid projects.

The partnership has since developed into a long-standing collaboration that has helped improve medical examination and treatment services, contributing to better healthcare for people in Da Nang and the wider Central Vietnam - Central Highlands region.

As reported by Da Nang Hospital, with the foundation’s support, more than 500,000 children in the region have received free screenings for congenital heart disease over the past two decades.

Nearly 3,700 children were diagnosed at an early stage, including nearly 2,000 who received medical interventions or treatment.

A key highlight of the anniversary was the foundation’s donation of the fourth digital subtraction angiography (DSA) system and two ultrasound machines to Da Nang Hospital, with a total value of €1 million.

The foundation had previously provided the hospital with three DSA systems and various other medical devices.

Among these, the Philips Azurion 7 B20 DSA system, donated in 2023, marked a significant step in strengthening the hospital’s equipment capacity for cardiovascular diagnosis and intervention.

The latest donation is expected to further enhance the hospital’s ability to diagnose cardiovascular conditions and perform interventional procedures. It will also provide doctors and medical staff with better tools to improve treatment quality and effectiveness.

Delivering her speech at the ceremony, Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, on behalf of the city’s leadership, expressed gratitude to the Heart for Heart - Foundation for Life, charitable organizations, medical experts and benefactors for their continued support and valuable contributions to patients.

She said Da Nang had consistently prioritized the development of a modern, specialized healthcare system, with the aim of strengthening its role as a medical hub for the Central Vietnam - Central Highlands region.
