DNO - In the context of visitor numbers to Da Nang continuously rising, the city’s authorities are strategically expanding tourism beyond its urban core to diversify offerings and ease congestion in the city center and the historic town of Hoi An.

The aim is to create new tourism value chains, offering both domestic and international travellers unique cultural and ecological experiences.
In the first ten months of 2025, Da Nang welcomed an estimated 15.4 million guests, up 20.3% from the same period in 2024. International arrivals reached approximately 6.3 million, up by 25.9%, with tour groups showing strong recovery trends.
The surge has placed significant pressure on traditional attractions, particularly the ancient streets of Hoi An, highlighting the urgent need to develop alternative routes and experiences.
As assessed by Le Quoc Viet, the Head of the Quang Destination Club under the Da Nang Tourism Association, the city currently has two core tourism areas: the dynamic ‘City of Life’ urban center and the heritage-rich, green Hoi An Ancient Town.
Each appeals to different visitor profiles, yet both face overcrowding during peak seasons. Therefore, it is high time to expanding tourism around these cores in a bid to an opportunity to develop innovative products that cater to new markets while preserving local character.
The city’s expanded administrative boundaries now allow for tourism growth in nearby areas within a 20 km radius.
Around Hoi An, areas such as Duy Vinh, Duy Xuyen and southern Hoi An are targeted for rural and river-based tourism, including the Co Co River and waterway routes to Tra Nhieu and Dong Khuong - My Son.

Da Nang is launching a range of new tourism offerings, including heritage tours to Tay Giang, Cham cultural experiences in Hoi An, Tra Kieu, My Son and Phat Vien Dong Duong, rural village explorations, source-of-origin journeys, wellness retreats featuring hot springs and herbal therapies, and biodiversity excursions to Cu Lao Cham (Cham Islands) and the Nong Son elephant sanctuary.
Private sector initiatives further enhance these offerings. FVG Travel, for instance, invests in river and waterway tourism at southern Hoi An, providing yacht experiences from Hoi An Old Town to local coconut forests and Vinpearl Nam Hoi An, alongside a “three-destinations, one-journey” tour linking Hoi An, My Son, and Dong Giang’s ecological sites.
In Da Nang’s new tourism development strategy, Tan Van Vuong, the Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, outlined two priority tourism spaces.
The first focuses on high-quality, upscale resort and entertainment services with green standards, encompassing the coastal areas, both banks of the Han River, routes along Ba Na - Suoi Mo and the western mountains, the Son Tra Peninsula, Cu Lao Cham, Hon Son Cha, Hai Van, the Co Co River, and other potential sites in the city’s southern areas.
The second emphasizes cultural and historical tourism, aiming to preserve and promote heritage values and traditions. Key areas include Hoi An and My Son, traditional craft villages along the Thu Bon River, cultural and spiritual centers at the Marble Mountains and Linh Ung Pagoda, as well as museums, historical sites, and community-based tourism in the city’s western areas.
