One of the most common applications of atomic energy in Da Nang is the use of radiation and radioactive isotopes in medical examination and treatment, especially in nuclear medicine, oncology and radiotherapy.

For instance, the Da Nang Oncology Hospital has used radiation equipment such as X-ray system and CT scanners in disease diagnosis at the Department of Diagnostic Imaging; radioactive substances for diagnosis and treatment at the Department of Nuclear Medicine; and brachytherapy sources and linear accelerators at the Department of Radiation Engineering.

Additionally, atomic energy has been applied to develop medicinal plant varieties, agricultural production, and food-processing materials.

Specifically, the University of Education and Science - the University of Da Nang is a bright spot in research and application of atomic energy, especially creating mutations using radiation on some crops (microalgae and rice varieties) in addition to training in nuclear engineering.

Notably, more than five industrial enterprises have used techniques and equipment mainly imported from abroad to scan microcircuits and processing chips.

Along with that, around 70 seafood companies have applied atomic energy in product preservation, including three major firms that use irradiation.

Currently, the Da Nang Department of Science and Technology is developing a program to boost the application of atomic energy to serve the city’s socio-economic development in the 2026 - 2030 period. The intention of the project is to develop agricultural and industrial production and improve the quality of life of the people.

According to Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Science and Technology Le Thi Thuc, the potential for atomic energy applications in the fields of medicine, agriculture, industry and environment is enormous and brings great impacts to life, economy and society. A well-structured program paired with appropriate investment will bring significant advantages to the city, she added.
