DNO - On September 27, Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi had a working session with Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre Lazare Eloundou Assomo at the Central Sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, Ha Noi. Leaders from Ngu Hanh Son Ward, Da Nang also attended this event.
At the meeting, Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi emphasized that, in the city's long-term development strategy, Da Nang remains steadfast in pursuing socio-economic development while preserving its cultural and natural heritage.
The city plans to prepare a nomination dossier for the Marble Mountains Cultural Landscape Complex to submit to UNESCO for recognition as a mixed World Heritage Site.
The Marble Mountains complex holds outstanding values in cultural exchange and acculturation. It keeps traces of the settlement and religious practices of the Sa Huynh, Champa, and Dai Viet civilizations.
Besides, a system of archaeological and historical sites and Ma Nhai (inscriptions) bearing a significance in history, literature, religion, linguistics, and cultural memory is well-preserved.
In particular, the 78 Han-Nom inscriptions found on the cliffs and within the caves of the Marble Mountains were inscribed by UNESCO as Documentary Heritage for the Asia-Pacific region in 2022.
The site also serves as a convergence point for Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, and the Vietnamese Mother Goddess worship, which are sustained through the local community's religious activities and festivals.
Regarding natural value, the Marble Mountains includes a cluster of six marble peaks situated amidst a system of coastal sand dunes that connects the Co Co River, the sea, and a system of natural caves.
The complex also holds geological and geomorphological significance, reflecting the process of karstification and coastline changes during the Quaternary period.
