DNO - The Da Nang International Airport is set to experience a significant increase in air traffic during the upcoming New Year 2026 holiday, followed by an even stronger surge during the Lunar New Year (Tet), reflecting the city’s growing role as a regional aviation and tourism hub.
As reported by Vietnamese newspaper VnEconomy, from December 22, 2025 to January 4, 2026, nearly 3,600 take-offs and landings are expected during the New Year holiday period.
This represents a 7.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025, with daily flight movements rising by 14 - 16 flights above normal levels.
The growth is driven mainly by increased domestic services operated by Vietjet Air and Vietnam Airlines.
During peak hours, flight volumes are projected to approach the designed capacity limits of both the domestic (T1) and international (T2) terminals, highlighting mounting travel demand at the end of the year.
International arrivals during the New Year holiday are expected to average 62 flights per day, up nearly 13% year-on-year, compared with 55 flights per day in 2025.
The number of wide-body aircraft operations will also rise, with 9 - 11 international flights per day and 2 - 4 domestic wide-body services, underscoring the expansion of medium - and long-haul routes.
Following the New Year peak, air traffic is forecast to climb sharply again during the Lunar New Year (Tet) 2026.
From February 10 to February 24, 2026, the airport is expected to handle an average of 343 flight movements per day, a substantial increase from 246 flights per day during the same period in 2025.
The surge is attributed to the entry of new airlines and higher flight frequencies from existing carriers.
In total, the airport estimates 5,042 flight movements during the Lunar New Year holiday, marking an increase of nearly 37% compared to 2025.
To ensure safe and efficient operations, the Da Nang International Airport has been carrying out regular maintenance of its runways, taxiways and aircraft parking areas.
A total of 57 parking positions will be available during peak periods, including 35 civil aviation stands and additional military-use parking areas.
In parallel, the airport has optimized terminal operations, strengthened staffing, enhanced traffic flow management, and maintained round-the-clock coordination through its Airport Operations Control Center (AOCC) to ensure smooth, safe and high-quality services throughout the peak holiday season.
