Tourism and services emerge as a bright spot

Despite being heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021-2022, Da Nang's tourism sector has now recovered and emerged as a bright spot in the city’s economic development.

Previously known as a beach tourism destination, Da Nang has since built an international-standard coastal tourism brand while expanding the exploitation of tourism products targeting high-end customers in MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), wedding, golf, culinary, educational, medical and railway tourism. Also, heritage tourism, especially cultural heritage, has received increasing attention.

Another notable highlight during this period was the strong development of the digital economy. According to statistics, the digital economy accounted for approximately 24% of the city's GRDP in 2024 and is continuing to increase. This demonstrated the shift and restructuring of the local economy linked to the development of science and technology.

Establishing new growth model

Over the 2026 - 2030 period, Da Nang aims to establish a new growth model, restructure the economy, and promote industrialization and modernization with science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation serving as main driving forces to create strong breakthroughs.

The city will prioritize investment resources based on the spatial development orientation that divides it into two regions, East and West.

At the same time, the focus will be on accelerating restructuring and promoting investment six spearhead sectors associated with six growth drivers. Among these priorities, high-quality tourism and services will be identified as a central pillar in positioning Da Nang as an attractive global destination.

Moreover, the city will lay an emphasis on developing high-quality cultural and historical heritage tourism by fully tapping the potential of world cultural heritage sites and world biosphere reserves.

The Ba Na Hills and the Son Tra Peninsula are set to be developed into international-class tourist areas, while the Tien Sa Port is slated for conversion into a tourist port after 2030.

In addition, investments will be made in a marina and service complex, and the construction of an international-standard entertainment and shopping center.

During the period, Da Nang will establish and develop a duty-free zone and industrial parks linked to the Da Nang International Airport, the Chu Lai Airport, the Lien Chieu Port, and the city's seaport system.

Also, the city will form concentrated information technology zones and a network of software parks, attracting digital technology enterprises with global competitiveness. The goal is for total industry revenue growth to be two to three times higher than the city’s overall GRDP growth rate each year.
