DNO - Closely tied to local culture, craft village tourism has emerged as a key pillar of tourism development strategy in Da Nang City, particularly as improved connectivity expands the city’s development space.

The appeal of craft village tourism

During his first visit to Da Nang, Mr Paul, a French tourist, spent time exploring traditional craft villages to better understand local culture. This reflects a growing trend among international visitors toward experiential tourism rooted in heritage.

Da Nang is home to nearly 70 craft and traditional craft villages, with around 3,000 production establishments, many of which have become popular tourist attractions. Each year, these villages welcome millions of visitors, mostly international.

The city’s craft villages possess distinctive cultural and artistic value, offering the dual benefit of heritage preservation and on-site consumption of local products.

In recent years, authorities and the tourism sector have invested in planning, infrastructure and experiential tour development to better harness this potential.

Connecting the tourism space

As Da Nang’s tourism space expands following administrative consolidation, linking craft villages is expected to create distinctive tourism routes, boost competitiveness and encourage longer visitor stays.

Connecting craft villages helps avoid fragmented development, build specialised tourism chains and better preserve craft heritage, while offering richer experiences and more sustainable livelihoods for local communities.

Recently, surveys were conducted around the Hoi An area to develop themed craft village routes targeting international segments such as MICE and cruise tourism.

City tourism authorities said craft villages will be linked based on their cultural, historical and spatial values, allowing visitors to experience both traditional crafts and village life, and ensuring craft village tourism becomes a sustainable and distinctive pillar of Da Nang’s development in the new phase.
