DNO - After the recent rearrangement of administrative units, former Cam Kim Commune now becomes a part of Hoi An Ward. The question now is whether the long-standing orientation of developing the area into an ecological countryside and craft village still will be maintained.

Blessed with a dense ecosystem, Cam Kim is considered a "green lung" right next to Hoi An Ancient Town.

Also, Cam Kim is home to a number of traditional crafts, notably Kim Bong Carpentry Village which was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016.

Recognizing the unique value of this area, the old Hoi An City already adopted a thematic resolution along with the project on building Cam Kim into an ecological countryside and craft village during the 2017 - 2025 period.

The implementation of the project has achieved many positive results, enhancing the value of the rural area.

During the 2021 - 2025 period, Cam Kim has developed a "Eco-Cultural - Tourism Village" model, attracting more than 14,000 visitors each year through community-based tourism activities and about 8,000 educational tours.

At the same time, it has invested in infrastructure upgrades, promoted the development of organic agriculture, and built a commune that meets advanced new-style rural standards.

Mrs. Bui Thi Kim Cuc, Head of the Kim Bong Ecological Agriculture and Community-based Tourism Cooperative, informed that the cooperative has already developed many tourism service groups, including river boat tours, culinary groups, tour guides at the site, and community homestays, to diversify the value chain for community-based tourism and study tourism.

Up to now, the community has been capable of welcoming groups of 50-100 guests, contributing to enhancing the value of the destination as well as creating new vitality for the Cam Kim eco-village.

Currently, the development of the Cam Kim eco-village in the new context is drawing much attention because this locality now becomes part of Hoi An Ward.

According to Mr. Tong Quoc Hung, Vice Chairman of Hoi An Ward People's Committee, although Cam Kim has become an urban area, it will still inherit the typical values of the eco-village. The ward will continue to carry out a number of unfinished projects and programmes in a bid to promote the new-style rural development for the area.
